Numerous Studies have proven that an overwhelming majority of our thoughts are negative. The effect of negative thinking on every aspect of our life is well documented. Every negative thought we have is an affirmation and these negative affirmations are even more powerful than positive affirmations, because they are often easier to accept. It is negative thoughts that feed our negative (usually false) internal beliefs. Fortunately, if you are willing to make the effort, there is a proven system to change these negative thought patterns, which in turn can change your life.
Positive affirmations are positive statements, usually short, that you can say out loud, in your head, in the mirror, or even on paper. These affirming statements are targeted at a specific set of beliefs in your subconscious. They are designed to stem the flow of negative thoughts and words that permeate out thinking, or to create change for a specific belief or value we may have. Positive affirmations are much more than just repeating words, but are part of an system of combating negative thinking, which has an enormous affect on our life. Learning to identify and stop negative thoughts is very difficult, but with practice, it is achievable. Thoughts multiply, so try to catch negative thoughts early and say something positive to combat it. Remember, you can only hold ONE thought in your mind at a time, positive or negative.
Why it works? Saying something to yourself, with meaning and conviction, is kind of like brainwashing. What you say to yourself, whether positive or negative, programs your subconscious. Your subconscious controls who you are, the actions you take, the words you say, etc. Affirmations actually reprogram your thought patterns, they change the way you think and feel about things, and they replaced non-useful thoughts and beliefs with your own new positive beliefs. This will start to reflect in your life and you will start to experience changes for the better in many areas.
Again, every thought you think and word you say is an affirmation. If you choose to think and say positive affirmations, the subconscious is forced into believing them. As a result, you will have the attitude, actions, demeanor, etc. of what you are telling yourself . Your mind is basically just responding to something it believes to be true!
Create your own affirmations by thinking about areas in your life that you would like to improve, or how you might like your life to be. A positive affirmation must in the present tense (I). For affirmations to work, you must repeat them over and over and over, and you must say them with meaning and conviction. You are reprogramming yourself. This is no easy job, so say them with intensity.
Below are some common areas to affirm and we have provided a few examples. A few minutes of thought and you will be able to have your own very quickly.
