Starting out Without a College Degree

Does a degree mean success? No way. Is it a key piece of the puzzle that can open doors and lead to success when you're young, or old? Yes. I am trying to figure out why I have heard a few stories recently of high school graduates, who have the means and ability to go to college, but opt out? It's not my business, so I don't ask, but I am genuinely curious how a person arives at this decision. It is not like 30 or 50 years ago when you could set up shop at an employer and work for 30 years and retire.

Those days are not completely gone, but it is not like it was. I can't even figure out what kind of a job an 18 or 19 year old even gets without a degree. Landscape, retail, restaurant work, what? If they know these are going to be their options, how is it they still opt out of college? Is there anything wrong with those jobs? No, but are you going to miss out on some of life's pleasures not earning much money? Yes. Well, I don't need money to be happy some might say. I agree, money does not make you happy, but it sure helps in many ways. How about this, why don't they go out and earn a lot of money and then make a more informed decision before deciding money isn't that important.
