This Says it All Regarding Jobs

This is a partial headline from an in-depth story / study on the job market and unemployment. It's not really some Earth shattering news, but at least it's not me saying it again. "Demand for Skilled Labor is Higher Than Ever." Let this sink in because this is a fact that will not change even if a depression were to hit. Highly skilled people are not unemployed, or if they become unemployed, it is not for very long. As a veteran of Human Resources, recruiting, and hiring, this is what I have been trying to instill in people. You need to significantly increase your skills, because if you do, employment will NEVER be a concern. I can show you right now tens of thousands of incredibly high paying unfilled jobs, all because people just aren't qualified.

I am not talking about an 8 week certificate course at your local college, although that is a good start. You need to get yourself in a position where you are in a field that requires your mind, thinking, and intelligence. Anybody can do grunt work, which is why the pay isn't great. But for those in a job or career that requires the use of your mind, now there is a paycheck. You use your mind now? Sure you do, but are you applying the laws of physics to improve the chemical composition of a product in the marketplace? Okay, maybe you don't need to know that, but why not? You absolutely have the intelligence to learn it. Whatever the skill is, you need to know something, or how to do something, your average Joe doesn't know or can't do easily.

It does not matter what age you are. You need to increase your skills. Life is short, but it's also long. Age is a useless number. If you start plugging away at improving your skills right now, in no time you will accumulate significant knowledge.  If you are in school currently, don't waste your time with degrees that the market doesn't care about. You know which ones they are. Pick a degree that is really hard. Remember, it is not really about what you like. It's about the market likes. Learn to like it. People have told me they used to hate to cook, but the funny thing is, as you do it more and get good at, you actually start to really like it. That is what happens with a difficult job or occupation. Get skilled and make employment a non-issue.
